The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has issued a strong statement condemning the circulation of a fabricated ‘statement of poll’ that was published shortly after the close of polls. The commission emphasized that it is impossible for ballot counting to have commenced at any polling station within the timeframe in question.
GECOM described the act as ‘despicable’ and stated that it appears designed to create a false impression, particularly through the Facebook page linked to ‘Team Mohammed’, a part of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) political outfit. The commission urged stakeholders to only accept the results of the elections posted on their website.
GECOM has advised that the matter will be investigated by the Guyana Police Force and reiterated the importance of accepting only official declarations made by the commission.
