
Police have launched an investigation into a reported theft of millions of dollars from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) in Georgetown. According to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, several GECOM employees are assisting the police in relation to a report of simple larceny. The detectives have recovered a significant portion of the stolen cash, which was found in the possession of an Assistant Accounts Clerk. The staffer has been taken into custody and is cooperating with the police.
The alleged theft occurred between September 15 and 16, 2025, at the GECOM Headquarters on High Street. The investigation is ongoing, with police working to uncover the full extent of the scheme.
