A senior official from the U.S. Department of Justice has announced plans to continue the questioning of Ghislaine Maxwell, a long-time associate of the late Jeffrey Epstein, following a productive initial meeting held in Tallahassee, Florida. Advocacy for the release of files pertaining to Epstein has intensified, building pressure on President Trump’s administration.
Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking, participated in an extensive interview with U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. Her lawyer, David Markus, described the day as filled with numerous questions and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. He reported that Maxwell was cooperative throughout the session.
Increasing scrutiny has emerged, especially from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who questioned the ethical implications of Trump’s connection to Blanche, suggesting potential conflicts of interest. Meanwhile, Trump responded on his social media platform, labeling the renewed attention on Epstein a “SCAM” orchestrated by Democrats to divert focus from his administration’s accomplishments.
Recent revelations indicate that Trump’s name was included in Justice Department documents related to Epstein, although the White House dismissed these claims as “fake news”. Importantly, being named does not imply criminal involvement, as Trump has never been accused of wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. Calls from the public and lawmakers for the release of Epstein-related documents continue, particularly in light of absent “client lists”.
Epstein’s death in 2019, ruled a suicide, has led to widespread conspiracy theories surrounding his actions and demise.
