The grassroots football league in Jiangsu Province, referred to as “Su Chao”, is proving to be a powerful catalyst for tourism and economic activity in its host cities.
Recent statistics from the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau reveal that the league has drawn in excess of 180,000 spectators, significantly impacting local economies.
During a thrilling match on June 1, 2025, in Nanjing, fans showcased their unwavering enthusiasm, contributing to a 14.63 percent increase in tourism spending compared to the previous year across six host cities, including Xuzhou, Yancheng, Changzhou, Nanjing, Nantong, and Lianyungang.
In response to the increased influx of visitors, local governments have implemented attractive discounts for various attractions, dining options, and accommodations. Notably, Changzhou saw a surge of 60,000 visitors from neighboring Yangzhou, underscoring the league’s ability to stimulate inter-city travel.
The rising attendance figures have also led to significant upgrades in facilities across Nanjing, Suzhou, Nantong, and Changzhou, with new stadiums constructed to accommodate the growing number of fans.
