Police in Georgetown seized a firearm and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in the early hours of New Year’s Day. The operation took place around 03:40hrs on Thursday, January 1, when mobile patrol officers observed a motor car moving along Durban Street. A pursuit ensued after the driver reportedly sped off as officers approached. The vehicle was eventually intercepted at the intersection of Aubrey Barker and High Palm Roads. During the search, officers found a suspected 9mm pistol and a magazine containing three suspected 9mm rounds inside the driver-side door of the vehicle.
A 26-year-old male suspect from Lamaha Park was arrested and taken to the East La Penitence Police Station. The suspected firearm and ammunition were lodged as evidence pending further investigations.
The investigation is ongoing, with the suspect remaining in police custody.
