Guyana has set ambitious new tourism targets, with a goal of welcoming three million transiting passengers through its ports of entry and attracting at least one million visitors annually by 2030.
The announcement was made by Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan Rodrigues during a high-level engagement with hoteliers, tour guides, and operators. She outlined several initiatives to boost travel to Guyana, including the establishment of a comprehensive calendar of events and an intensified international marketing drive.
Minister Rodrigues also emphasized the importance of targeting the Guyanese diaspora community through special rates and packages, as well as introducing staycation packages to keep locals engaged during the off-season. A daily spending cap of US$200 for Guyanese travellers is also being proposed, with the aim of promoting affordable travel options.
The government plans to establish tourism information centres at all major ports of entry, providing travellers with immediate access to details about events and attractions across the country. Minister Rodrigues pledged close collaboration with industry stakeholders to address persistent challenges, including high domestic travel costs and limited access to major attractions.
