The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has issued a statement responding to comments made by Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes regarding the ongoing court case of Police vs. Marlon DaSilva, concerning the murder of Kenesha Vaughn. Hughes suggested that Magistrate Judy Latchman had directed that all evidence for the prosecution should be presented to both the court and the defense by May 12, 2025, after which he claimed the Police failed to comply.
However, the GPF clarified that all requested documentation was actually provided to Hughes’ law office three days ahead of the Magistrate’s deadline, specifically on May 9, 2025. This contradicts Hughes’s assertions that he sought further statements from the Police as late as June 26, 2025.
Additionally, the GPF reported that one of Hughes’ associates reached out to a police witness on the eve of the trial, implying that an adjournment would be requested due to the absence of a senior associate.
The GPF emphasized that the prosecution of this case rests solely with Hughes and his team since they were granted a Fiat by the Director of Public Prosecutions on March 17, 2025. The Police intend to raise concerns regarding Hughes’ ability to advance the prosecution effectively, particularly given the gravity of the murder charge.
