
The Government of Guyana has initiated talks with the United States on various pressing issues that impact the nation’s economic and security interests.
A virtual meeting was held between President Dr. Irfaan Ali and senior officials from the US Department of Commerce and Interior, led by Secretary Mr. Howard Lutnick and Secretary Mr. Doug Burgum respectively.
Key areas of discussion included trade agreements, tariffs, food and energy security, modern infrastructure development, and security partnerships.
The attendees expressed interest in expanding trade and commercial relations with Guyana, including significant investments in infrastructure and energy projects in the near future.
A high-level delegation from Guyana was represented by Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud, Ambassador to Mexico Zulfikar Ally, Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Omar Khan, National Security Adviser Captain Gerry Gouveia, and Director of the National Intelligence Agency Colonel Sheldon Howell.
