Guyana has proudly secured the rights to host the 2026 Caribbean Development Archery Championships, marking a significant milestone in the country’s sports arena. Archery Guyana, the national body governing the sport, made this exciting announcement following a competitive bid process, triumphing over Jamaica.
Sergio Font, Secretary-General of World Archery Americas, confirmed the selection after a vote involving the eligible Caribbean federations that communicate in English. This achievement reflects Archery Guyana’s advancements and readiness, showcased during a recent mock event at the Leonora Track and Field Facility.
President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “This moment belongs to all of Guyana, and we look forward to collaborating with stakeholders to present a memorable and high-caliber event.”
In a festive announcement, Archery Guyana revealed the championship’s mascot: Kai the Keen-eyed Kiskadee. This lively character embodies Guyanese culture, with the Kiskadee bird reflecting the spirit of the competition—energetic and keen. Named after the stunning Kaieteur Falls, the mascot symbolizes Guyana’s natural beauty and vigor, with Kai’s sharp gaze representing the focus and skill required in archery.
Archery Guyana is enthused about garnering support from archers, sponsors, and volunteers for the event, promising to display Guyana’s sporting excellence on a regional and global stage.
