The Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) proudly honored its leading cane harvesters for the First Crop of 2025, with Uitvlugt Estate dominating the rankings. This recognition took place during an impactful ceremony at Rose Hall Estate on June 6, 2025, where the top twelve harvesters across various estates were acknowledged for their remarkable productivity.
Mr. Leon Seelall of Uitvlugt Estate was celebrated as the Most Productive Harvester, impressively yielding 644.81 tonnes of cane over just 54 days, averaging nearly 12 tonnes per day. Fellow harvesters, Mr. Keyoma Pilgrim and Mr. Danier DeChuna, also from Uitvlugt, were recognized for their contributions, with totals of 622.45 tonnes and 435.82 tonnes, respectively. Each of these top performers received an average day’s pay of $32,000, highlighting their extraordinary dedication. This is the second consecutive crop featuring top harvesters from Uitvlugt Estate.
The Most Productive Cane Harvester Programme, launched in the Second Crop of 2024 by CEO Mr. Paul Cheong, aims to motivate, instill accountability, and increase productivity among harvesting teams. “Our objective is to cultivate a results-oriented culture where every member recognizes the significance of their contributions,” stated Mr. Cheong.
In addition to the Uitvlugt winners, top harvesters from Albion, Blairmont, and Rose Hall Estates were also acknowledged. Mr. Cheong underscored the necessity of retaining skilled workers amid industry competition, asserting that GuySuCo is dedicated to valuing its workforce.
GuySuCo expresses heartfelt gratitude to all harvesters for their hard work during the First Crop, looking forward to the continued positive effects of this recognition program on morale and productivity.
