The Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) has recognized its leading cane harvesters for the First Crop of 2025, with Uitvlugt Estate securing all top three positions, continuing its impressive streak from the previous crop.
This acknowledgment took place during a ceremony on June 6 at Rose Hall Estate, where twelve of the most effective harvesters across GuySuCo’s operations were honored for their outstanding productivity.
Leon Seelall emerged as the Most Productive Harvester, achieving an impressive 644.81 tonnes of cane in just 54 days, averaging 11.94 tonnes per day. Fellow Uitvlugt workers Keyoma Pilgrim and Danier DeChuna took second and third place with 622.45 and 435.82 tonnes, respectively.
This marks the second consecutive crop in which Uitvlugt Estate has dominated the rankings, reinforcing its status in the industry.
CEO Paul Cheong introduced the Most Productive Cane Harvester Programme in the Second Crop of 2024 to motivate and enhance productivity within harvesting teams. He believes fostering a results-driven culture is vital for boosting morale and recognizing employee contributions.
Despite challenges in retaining skilled labor amidst swift economic changes, Cheong reiterated GuySuCo’s commitment to employees through competitive compensation and recognition programs, highlighting that the harvesters are essential to the sugar production process.
The Corporation expressed its appreciation for the hard work and dedication of all harvesters, emphasizing that such initiatives are crucial for a sustainable future in the sugar industry.
