
England’s Harry Brook has ascended to the position of the world’s top-ranked Test batter in the latest ICC rankings, following his impressive score of 158 in the first innings at Edgbaston. He has surpassed his teammate Joe Root, who now sits in second place, trailing Brook by 18 points.
Meanwhile, Indian Test captain Shubman Gill’s remarkable performances, including scores of 269 and 161 in the second Test against a dominant win over India, have elevated him to the sixth spot, marking a significant rise of 15 positions and earning him a career-best rating of 807 points. Occupying the spots between Brook, Root, and Gill are Kane Williamson in third, Yashasvi Jaiswal in fourth, and Steven Smith in fifth.
The Edgbaston Test also saw England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith making strides, achieving a career-best score of 184* and an additional 88 runs in the second innings, propelling him up 16 places to the tenth rank.
Among South African allrounders, Wiaan Mulder made significant gains with a staggering score of 367* against Zimbabwe, moving up to 22nd among batters and into the top three allrounders, overtaking 12 ranks. Ravindra Jadeja continues to lead this category.
In the ODI rankings, Sri Lanka’s captain Charith Asalanka and Kusal Mendis have also seen improvements following their notable performances in the recent series against Bangladesh. Mendis rose to the tenth spot after scoring 225 runs, while Asalanka climbed to sixth place.
