SHIJIAZHUANG, April 20 (Xinhua) — The authorities of Hebei Province in northern China are determined to make significant strides in the establishment of the Xiongan New Area, a strategic economic zone set to encompass three counties within Hebei.
During a plenary session of the provincial branch of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Party chief Zhao Kezhi emphasized the importance of a development approach centered around the population. He underscored that policymaking should reflect public sentiment and that any challenges related to the relocation of residents and businesses must be effectively addressed.
Zhao highlighted plans to enhance public services in employment, education, healthcare, and social security within the area. He also mentioned the necessity of stringent oversight of the real estate market to prevent speculation, advocating for stable housing and land prices in Xiongan and its vicinity.
In line with the new area’s function, population and housing policies will be formulated. Zhao outlined ambitions for the city planning to elevate it to the standards of a first-class international city, incorporating traditional aspects while prioritizing environmental considerations.
Acting provincial governor Xu Qin reiterated the importance of managing property development and housing costs, as well as planning and population controls in adjacent areas. Xu noted that the Xiongan New Area aims to alleviate urban challenges such as traffic and air pollution in Beijing by redistributing non-essential functions away from the capital.
On April 1, China announced its plans for the creation of the Xiongan New Area, located about 100 kilometers southwest of Beijing, to support a balanced regional development.
