This remarkable story of bravery and selflessness takes place in the small town of Cullman, Alabama. On November 7th, a 9-year-old girl named Delyla McCay was mauled by a blue heeler dog while sitting on her front steps with her sister McKenzie.
The dog lunged at the girl’s face and wouldn’t let go, causing severe facial injuries. However, before things took a deadly turn, a nearby teenager intervened and punched the dog until it released its grip. The 13-year-old hero was also bitten in the process, but his selfless act saved Delyla’s life.
Despite the traumatic experience, Delyla’s mother, Katie McCay, praised her daughter’s bravery and resilience. ‘My kid was just sitting there. She’s so sweet,’ she said.
The dog has since been put down by Cullman County Animal Control, but the heroic actions of the 13-year-old teenager will be remembered for a long time. Delyla McCay is currently recovering from her severe injuries and will require plastic surgery and rabies shots to fully recover.
