A recent hiking expedition turned perilous when Janelle Banda, a 32-year-old woman, went missing from the ‘Edge of the World’ campground in Arizona while hiking with her father. The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office received reports of her disappearance late on Friday night, June 13, prompting immediate search efforts.
Rescue teams conducted intense searches, including a nighttime descent into a nearby canyon, but unfortunately, they were unable to locate Banda that evening. Their efforts continued over the weekend, with assistance from other agencies as concern grew for her safety.
On Monday, after three exhausting days of searching, rescue teams successfully located Banda at approximately noon. She was found dehydrated with minor injuries, attributing a successful rescue to the persistent efforts of the authorities involved.
Banda’s sister, Sarah, shared the family’s determination during their ordeal, expressing their unwavering hope despite the darkness and uncertainty: “Even when we felt at our lowest… we were like, wherever she is, we will find her.” Today, the family is relieved and grateful for her safe recovery, focusing on supporting Banda as she heals after her frightening experience.
