The devastating effects of a severe storm that hit Kako Village in Cuyuni/Mazaruni have prompted relief efforts to support affected residents. According to Toshao Romario Hastings, no injuries were reported, but seven homes were damaged, and three community sports pavilions were severely impacted.
Minister Bharrat has dispatched a team to assess the damage and provide necessary supplies, including tents for temporary shelter, food hampers, and rebuilding materials. The latter is of utmost urgency, as Hastings emphasized that the village will seek support to repair damaged facilities and ensure the safety of affected families.
Last October, Kako Village was also hit by a storm, highlighting the importance of being prepared for extreme weather events. As Hastings noted, ‘Only last month, a thunderous storm injured a family during the night.’
