A disturbing incident unfolded in Albany, NY, involving an illegal immigrant who allegedly confronted U.S. Attorney John Sarcone with a knife. Saul Morales-Garcia, a 40-year-old Salvadoran who had been previously deported, has been charged with attempted murder following the attack.
According to reports, the confrontation occurred outside a hotel where Sarcone was present on Tuesday night. In a harrowing moment, Morales-Garcia lunged at Sarcone, reportedly making gestures indicating he would harm him. Sarcone, fearing for his life, escaped into the hotel and immediately contacted law enforcement. He expressed his concern that without intervention, others could be at risk.
Despite his efforts to ensure the safety of bystanders, Morales-Garcia again approached Sarcone before the police arrived. Eventually, law enforcement apprehended the suspect, recovering the knife used in the incident. Morales-Garcia, who had re-entered the U.S. illegally in 2021, now faces multiple charges including attempted murder and menacing. He is currently held without bail after pleading not guilty at his arraignment.
Sarcone indicated that while he knows the Albany area well, he no longer feels safe in the streets. The timely response from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office was commended, with Sarcone acknowledging that their actions likely prevented further harm.
