Authorities have raised the stakes in the search for two escapees from the Orleans Justice Center, Derrick Groves and Antoine Massey. As of Thursday, both Crime Stoppers New Orleans and the FBI are offering rewards of $20,000 each for information leading to their capture, totaling $40,000 between them. Additionally, the ATF has joined the effort with a separate offer of $10,000 per fugitive, which brings the total reward to $50,000 for anyone who provides assistance in apprehending these fugitives.
Groves, who is awaiting sentencing for manslaughter, and Massey, a repeat escapee currently facing multiple charges including domestic abuse and vehicle theft, have been evading authorities since their escape on May 16. Massey’s history of previous escapes has prompted scrutiny regarding his treatment in custody, with a former prison warden questioning the decision to house him in a first-floor cell given his notorious record.
As part of the ongoing investigation, law enforcement agencies including the Louisiana State Police and FBI are actively working together, with a joint press conference scheduled to provide updates on the search. In total, 14 individuals have been arrested for allegedly aiding the escapees.
Authorities are committed to re-capturing the remaining escapees, as the first eight prisoners have already been recaptured, ensuring community safety remains a top priority.
