Toshao of Rockstone Village, Deino Williams has publicly endorsed President Irfaan Ali and the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) for a second term in office, citing their commitment to Amerindian development and carbon credit initiatives.
Williams praised the PPP/C for their leadership in transforming communities with the funds received from carbon credits, stating that his village has seen significant improvements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The PPP/C’s carbon credit programme has been instrumental in providing millions of dollars to indigenous communities, exceeding the promised 15% allocation. In 2023, over $22.7 million was distributed to more than 200 communities, with a total of $23.27 million in 2024.
Williams’ endorsement is part of a growing chorus of Indigenous leaders who credit the government’s initiatives for improving lives and creating new opportunities for Amerindian people.
