Over a year after being charged, Brian Richard has been ordered to stand trial in the High Court for the murder of educator and comedian Kirwyn Mars, known as âSir Marsâ. During a ruling by Magistrate Sunil Scarce on Friday, Richard was committed to proceed to the next session of the Demerara Assizes at the High Court following a preliminary inquiry at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate Court.
Sir Mars was tragically killed on May 7, 2023, at Plantation Providence, East Bank Demerara. His body was discovered pinned between his vehicle and a fence adjacent to an apartment building, with an autopsy revealing multiple stab wounds, including eight crucial injuries to his chest, shoulder, and limbs.
According to police reports, two knives were found at the crime scene. Surveillance photos captured both Mars and Richard leaving and entering the Green City Bar shortly before the incident. It is alleged that a confrontation between the two men intensified inside Mars’s car, leading both to arm themselves with knives. When Mars attempted to flee, Richard allegedly reversed the car, pinning him against the fence. Richard fled the scene but was later apprehended and admitted his involvement in the murder.
