
President Dr. Irfaan Ali has unveiled plans for a new technology-based program designed to address gender-based violence against women, a significant element of his administration’s commitment to enhancing women’s empowerment and safety. This announcement was made during the third graduation ceremony of the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL).
In his address, President Ali underscored the essential contribution of women, especially mothers, in shaping society, announcing that bold measures will be implemented to support and protect them. “In the upcoming days, we will introduce a program utilizing technology to effectively combat violence against women,” he stated.
While specifics about the program remain under wraps, President Ali emphasized that it is part of a larger effort to tackle this critical societal issue. He noted that over 70 percent of GOAL scholarship recipients are women, encouraging attendees to recognize this moment of collective empowerment.
The President appreciates the impact of GOAL on women’s access to education and economic independence, stating, “This program has eliminated barriers imposed by distance, cost, and time, while challenging outdated narratives about women’s educational pursuits.” He shared personal reflections on the sacrifices made by mothers in their quest for better opportunities, reinforcing their pivotal role in societal development.
He concluded his remarks by affirming that as women succeed, their families and communities thrive, fostering overall progress in Guyana.
