The UN humanitarian chief has asserted that the people of Gaza are undergoing forced starvation, attributing this situation to Israeli actions. Regrettably, Fletcher later withdrew a previous statement predicting the imminent death of 14,000 infants in Gaza due to aid restrictions, indicating a need for careful communication. Fletcher criticized the withholding of food at the borders, outlining the dire starvation of the population in Gaza and calling on Israeli leadership to renounce disparaging comments regarding the residents’ despair.
With escalating global criticism of Israel’s military strategies, top EU and world leaders have voiced their concerns, urging a halt to hostilities and immediate humanitarian access. Fletcher warned that historical moments of inaction must not repeat, advocating for urgent intervention from the UN Security Council to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
