A woman, who displayed an intense obsession with the K-pop sensation BTS, was apprehended while attempting to invade Jungkook’s home just hours after he was released from military service.
The 30-something Chinese individual was reportedly seen fruitlessly entering various combinations on a lock outside Jungkook’s Seoul apartment around 11:20 PM local time (3:20 PM BST) on Wednesday, according to police reports.
She confessed to traveling to South Korea specifically to catch a glimpse of the artist, but was arrested for trespassing.
This incident coincides with the recent discharge of Jungkook and three other BTS members from their obligatory military service, which has stirred excitement and speculation regarding a potential band reunion. By the end of this month, all seven members of BTS are anticipated to complete their military obligations, with their agency, Hybe, suggesting possibilities for their return.
Fans gathered outside Hybe’s headquarters, celebrating their idols’ return while donning purple outfits — BTS’s iconic color — and wielding large banners and photos.
Jungkook expressed gratitude to the fans who came out to support him, admitting to feeling “a bit embarrassed” after a long absence from the cameras. In South Korea, every able-bodied male must serve approximately two years, though debates had surrounded BTS’s service due to their significant contributions to the country. An exception was granted in 2020, allowing the group to postpone enlistment until the age of 30.
The intruder has been mandated to undertake eight hours of sexual violence prevention education as part of her penalty.
