On Sunday, President Dr. Irfaan Ali inaugurated the new Diamond Regional Hospital, designed to meet global healthcare standards and equipped with round-the-clock emergency and laboratory services. Speaking to a large audience of citizens and healthcare professionals, Dr. Ali emphasized that this investment goes beyond bricks and mortar; it’s fundamentally about enhancing the health and well-being of the people in Guyana, particularly those in the East Bank region.
“This is an investment in equality, ensuring that all, regardless of their financial status or background, receive top-tier medical care,” stated the President. The hospital will provide a wide array of specialized services, including internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, cardiology, and mental health.
With modern amenities such as an oxygen plant, water-filtration system, advanced diagnostic equipment, and a capacious layout featuring 75 beds and three operating theaters, the facility adheres to the health protocols of China, the UK, and the USA.
Dr. Ali also highlighted the simultaneous investment in healthcare personnel, with thousands trained within the past five years to ensure a skilled workforce. The government’s vision includes the implementation of a digital health system, thereby bolstering accountability and efficiency in healthcare delivery. In line with these advancements, the administration aims to position Guyana as a prominent health hub, encouraging private investments while ensuring fair access to quality care for all citizens. The Diamond Regional Hospital is just the first of six medical facilities planned to enhance healthcare across the nation.
