
Bharrat Jagdeo, the General Secretary of Guyana’s ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP), passionately defended the government’s accomplishments on Sunday (July 13, 2025) during the official launch of the party’s campaign for the upcoming elections.
Speaking to a large crowd in Georgetown, Jagdeo showcased an impressive array of successes from the PPP/C administration, including tax reductions and significant infrastructure development, thus presenting the party as the epitome of effective governance.
“Campaigning here is easy because you all have witnessed the transformation of this nation,” Jagdeo remarked.
He emphasized that since 2020, the government has abolished over 200 hardship taxes while adopting a no new tax policy. Job opportunities have soared, driven by growth in sectors like oil, agriculture, and construction, resulting in over 60,000 new jobs. Public sector salaries have surged, with pensions doubling and an increased income tax threshold.
