As political parties prepare for the upcoming General Elections in September, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo emphasizes the significance of these elections and cautions citizens against taking risks with their votes.
During a press conference, Jagdeo painted an optimistic picture for the future of Guyana, urging voters to rally behind his party. He stated, “These elections are not about taking risks; they are crucial for Guyana’s future. A capable leader and a solid team, proven through achievements, are essential for guiding our nation towards prosperity. If you are fair-minded, you will recognize the singular leadership we offer that prioritizes progress for all citizens.”
Opposition parties, including A Partnership for National Unity and the Alliance For Change, have indicated their readiness for the electoral contest. Businessman Azruddin Mohamed has also announced plans to launch his party soon, vowing to run a serious campaign.
However, Vice President Jagdeo expressed skepticism regarding the opposition’s preparedness, describing them as unready and lacking capacity. He commented that the elections should center around contrasting ideas and proven competency, asserting that risks are unwarranted.
Confident of gaining overwhelming support, Jagdeo assured that his party will campaign on a remarkable track record of accomplishments despite past challenges, including the pandemic. He expressed trust in the Guyana Elections Commission and the integrity of the electoral process, stating that electoral observers have been invited to ensure transparency.
