The Government of Guyana, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Water and the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), has inaugurated a new housing scheme at Hof Van Aurich, providing hope for numerous families aspiring for home ownership. On the day of the launch, over 200 residential lots were allocated to eager applicants.
During a session at the Regional Housing Office, Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, revealed that the development spans more than 100 acres and is situated about 1.5 miles from the main thoroughfare. The initial phase of the project will feature approximately 400 housing lots, with plans for future expansions to address the increasing demand in the region.
Minister Croal highlighted that this marks the third significant housing development initiative by the Ministry in Region Two, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing housing challenges and resolving ongoing issues in areas such as Lima Sands and Charity.
The recent allocations contrast sharply with the period between 2015 and 2020, when merely 1,271 lots were distributed. Under the current administration, over 53,000 lots have been given across the nation, exceeding previous commitments. Beneficiaries, like new landowner Abiola James, expressed joy about their new opportunities for affordable housing.
Regional Chairperson Vilma De Silva lauded the initiative, stating it meets the pressing housing needs within the community. The Minister also addressed land regularization challenges in Lima Sands, announcing that numerous families will soon receive their land titles, with additional efforts ongoing to mitigate flooding issues impacting development.
