Attorney Vanessa Thomas addressed APNU supporters in Melanie on Sunday, advocating for a revival of the self-help housing model from the 1970s that helped establish thriving communities like theirs. With over two decades of legal experience, she reflected on her deep ties to the village and her family’s political heritage.
Rejecting accusations that APNU lacks a comprehensive housing strategy, Thomas pointed out, “This is misinformation. The Partnership for National Unity has solid plans for housing development.” She emphasized the community’s historical involvement in constructing their own homes and urged the local youth to break free from constraints and embrace empowerment through self-initiative.
Highlighting the coalition’s rent-to-own initiative, Thomas asserted it would provide families with the opportunity to afford housing. She reminisced about her father’s role in transforming the area into a vibrant settlement back in the 1970s, mentioning that efforts go beyond merely providing land.
Challenging the PPP/C government’s claims of distributing housing lots, she questioned the effectiveness of those initiatives without financial support for construction. Other speakers echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of the rent-to-own model for lower-income families. This rally is part of APNU’s ongoing campaign along the East Coast as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
