In a recent discussion on ‘America Reports,’ Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill expressed confidence in recapturing the remaining fugitives from a mass jailbreak that occurred on May 16. The New Orleans authorities have successfully made 14 arrests tied to this incident, which involved the escape of ten inmates from Orleans Parish, with eight already back in custody. The two escapees still at large are domestic violence suspect Antoine T. Massey and convicted murderer Derrick Groves, both considered to be armed and dangerous.
Murrill’s remarks came after the arrests of three women accused of assisting the escapees, including Massey’s sister. Authorities revealed that the escapees had cleverly removed a toilet to create an exit route from the jail. In addition to the eight re-arrested inmates, several others have been charged with aiding in the escape.
Murrill highlighted the familial ties of some of the arrested accomplices, noting that they reached out to escapees for help. “We will pursue and prosecute anyone found assisting them,” she asserted.
Groves, who previously received multiple life sentences for violent crimes, has familial concerns regarding his safety while on the run. His aunt urged him to surrender, emphasizing the dangers he may face. Additionally, the state police have indicated that the escaped inmates could potentially be out of state, increasing the urgency of the manhunt.
