A significant drone offensive has struck Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, as reported by Mayor Ihor Terekhov. This assault involved 48 drones, two missiles, and four gliding bombs, resulting in three fatalities and 21 injuries, including a baby and a 14-year-old girl.
Terekhov condemned the attack as an act of “open terror”. This onslaught follows a series of drone and missile assaults across Ukraine the previous night. Russian authorities claimed the strikes were retribution for what they termed “terrorist attacks” by Ukraine, referencing Ukraine’s recent operations against Russian air bases.
The violence didn’t stop in Kharkiv; Kherson also faced Russian strikes, leading to two more deaths, according to local reports. In light of these escalations, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha has called for intensified international action against Russia.
On the diplomatic front, discussions over a prisoner exchange have taken a tumultuous turn. Reports from both sides differ regarding the timing of the swap, with Moscow accusing Ukraine of delaying processes. However, Ukrainian authorities vehemently refuted these claims, emphasizing that the agreed-upon terms for the exchange have not been met by Russia.
This latest wave of attacks follows Ukrainian strategic drone strikes targeting Russian warplanes, marking a significant escalation in hostilities. As tensions rise, both nations appear locked in a fierce confrontation with little indication of resolution.
