Authorities are continuing their search for a 32-year-old Washington man, Travis Decker, who is accused of killing his three young daughters aged nine, eight, and five. The Wenatchee Police Department has issued charges of kidnapping and first-degree murder against him.
Mr. Decker is believed to be hiding in remote mountainous areas, which complicates the efforts of law enforcement, including the FBI, to locate him. Respected as an outdoorsman with possible military survival training, police warn that he poses a significant danger.
The bodies of Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia were discovered on June 2 at a remote campground, suffering from apparent suffocation. Their mother reported their absence on May 30, after they failed to return to her following a visit with their father.
Investigators found Mr. Decker’s cell phone at the site, but he had already fled. His abandoned truck, suspected to be his makeshift residence, was also located nearby. Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison made a heartfelt public appeal to Mr. Decker, urging him to surrender, emphasizing that no rationale could justify such actions.
In a call for assistance, the US Marshals Service has announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to his apprehension, as the search has led to significant closures of popular hiking areas in the national forests.
