Guyana’s housing sector achieves a significant milestone as the Ministry of Housing and Water is set to exceed 50,000 house lot allocations through its ongoing ‘Dream Realised’ initiative in Region Six.
This two-day allocation event, which commenced on Friday at the State House in New Amsterdam, marks the Ministry’s third allocation exercise in Region Six for 2025, specifically aimed at moderate, middle, and high-income earners.
Housing and Water Minister Collin Croal proclaimed this occasion a pivotal moment in the government’s ambitious housing program. “With this event’s conclusion, we surpass the milestone of 50,000 house lots allocated since August 2020,” he announced to an excited crowd of future homeowners, emphasizing the government’s dedication to fulfilling its promises.
The event is part of the broader ‘Dream Realised’ program, showcasing the government’s focus on equitable development across all regions. Croal highlighted that the current allocation is one of three major events in Region Six within a short span, attributing this success to strong leadership and community trust.
Since the current government took office, over 70,000 housing applications existed in the backlog. However, enhanced outreach and land development initiatives are bringing families closer to achieving homeownership. With expanded eligibility and streamlined processes, young individuals can now secure land, a once-challenging aspiration.
Region Six benefits prominently from this housing drive, having already distributed over 4,545 house lots while the ongoing exercise adds another 815 acres of residential land across various areas. Infrastructure improvements, including access roads, are being developed to promote connectivity in these new communities.
While acknowledging the complexities of land development, Croal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to balancing various national priorities without jeopardizing the housing program’s progress. As visits to newly allocated lands begin next week, Croal reinforced the promise of affordable homeownership for all Guyanese, stating that this achievement signifies the ongoing transformation of the nation, building closely-knit communities one family at a time.
