Minister Kwame McCoy has strongly rejected claims that the government cannot present a budget due to the absence of an opposition. In a statement on his Facebook page, the minister stated that these claims are either intentionally misleading or demonstrate a lack of understanding about the events of November 3, 2025, when Parliament was inaugurated.
McCoy pointed out that opposition members were sworn in during the parliamentary meeting, which is a matter of public record. He accused some individuals now spreading this false information of being ‘visibly bewildered’ at the time and implied that they are trying to undermine public understanding by sowing confusion.
The minister also highlighted the hypocrisy of opposition leaders who have repeatedly demanded the appointment of a leader, yet claim that no opposition exists. He described this behavior as irresponsible, dangerous, and insulting to the intelligence of the Guyanese people.
‘We will present the 2026 budget on January 26, 2026, outlining our vision for transformation, growth, and prosperity,’ McCoy stated. ‘Parliament is lawfully constituted, and we have a parliamentary opposition. We will not be deterred by such baseless claims.’
