New court documents have unveiled chilling details about Vance Boelter, the suspect in the tragic shooting of a Minnesota state lawmaker and her husband. The 57-year-old allegedly attacked Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her spouse at their Brooklyn Park residence, having already shot State Senator John Hoffman and his wife earlier that night.
Authorities discovered that Boelter, posing as a police officer and driving an SUV equipped with fake police lights, left behind a trove of firearms in his vehicle, which included multiple AK-47 rifles and a 9mm handgun. Disturbingly, inside was also a manifesto listing around 70 names, including public officials and advocates related to abortion rights.
Following a dramatic two-day manhunt deemed the largest in Minnesota’s history, Boelter was apprehended on Sunday night. He faces serious charges, including four felony counts of second-degree murder, with each count carrying a maximum penalty of 40 years and a minimum of three years due to firearm use.
Former congressman Dean Phillips, whose name appeared on the suspect’s list, expressed gratitude toward law enforcement for their quick actions and emphasized the urgent need to combat political violence. As investigations continue, officials have not yet identified a clear motive for the attacks.
