Authorities are on the hunt for Morgan Geyser, a woman convicted of stabbing another girl in 2014 as part of a self-described ‘Slender Man’ ritual. She escaped from a Wisconsin facility by cutting off her monitoring bracelet and has been missing since Saturday night.
Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide in the stabbing of Payton Leutner, who miraculously survived the attack. The incident was sparked by Geyser’s obsession with the horror character Slender Man, which she believed would bring her an ounce of power and protection.
Despite being found not guilty by reason of mental defect, Geyser has been in custody at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute for the past seven years. Her escape has raised concerns about her continued risk to public safety.
The Madison Police Department is urging anyone with information about Geyser’s whereabouts to come forward. They have released a recent image of her, taken from security footage, in hopes that it will help identify her and bring an end to her flight.
