Elon Musk has expressed strong opposition to President Donald Trump’s proposed tax and spending legislation, urging American citizens to contact their lawmakers and demand its withdrawal. Describing the bill as a significant threat to national finances, Musk warned that it would worsen the federal budget deficit and lead to overwhelming debt for Americans.
This sweeping budget plan, which proposes substantial tax cuts and increased military spending, received approval from the House of Representatives and is currently under Senate review. Musk took to social media to label the bill a “disgusting abomination,” signaling a growing rift between him and Trump, who champions the bill as central to his second-term objectives.
“Shame on those who voted for it,” Musk declared, hinting that he could seek to remove those politicians in the upcoming midterm elections. His comments come after a short stint in the Trump administration that ended a week prior, where he aimed to cut costs.
Following Musk’s statements, the White House issued a counter-response, labeling claims about increased deficits as false, and asserting the legislation would lead to significant economic growth. The bill is projected to inflate the deficit by about $600 billion in the next fiscal year.
While Musk has been vocally critical, divisions within the Republican Party are apparent, with some members, including Senator Rand Paul, expressing concerns over the debt implications of the bill. As the Senate considers the legislation, tensions are expected to rise further within GOP ranks.
