Authorities in Arkansas have released an updated image of Grant Hardin, a former police chief who escaped from a medium-security prison on May 25. Nicknamed the “Devil in the Ozarks,” Hardin, 56, is under intense scrutiny as he is serving a lengthy sentence for serious crimes, including murder and rape.
The Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC) provided the new photo in response to ongoing public concern and the extensive efforts to find Hardin in the Ozark region. The update states that investigators are diligently following leads and tips while emphasizing the potential transformation of Hardin’s appearance since his escape.
The FBI and U.S. Marshals have also joined the search, offering a total reward of $25,000 for information that could lead to his capture. Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to reach out via the FBI’s hotline.
In a striking revelation, it took less than half an hour for prison staff to confirm Hardin had escaped. Visuals from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office depict him wearing an ADC uniform during his flight, although officials have clarified it was not an official uniform.
Hardin has prior ties to regions including Garfield and Eureka Springs, and officials believe he remains in or near these areas. Given his criminal history, authorities urge the public to stay cautious, as he could pose a considerable threat while evading capture.
