Guyanese middle-order batsman Kevlon Anderson has earned his first Test call-up to represent the West Indies against Australia this June, recognized for his impressive domestic performances.
Joining him is fellow newcomer, white-ball opener Brandon King, while the experienced trio of wicketkeeper/batsman Shai Hope, middle-order batsman Keacy Carty, and opener John Campbell are making their return to the Test side.
West Indies will be led by captain Roston Chase and his vice-captain Jomel Warrican, while Gudakesh Motie and Joshua DaSilva will not be part of this squad, with recent candidates for leadership roles missing out.
The 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match Test series features players such as Kraigg Brathwaite, Justin Greaves, Tevin Imlach, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Johann Layne, Mikyle Louis, Anderson Phillip, and Jayden Seales.
This series not only marks the beginning of the highly anticipated 2025-2027 ICC Test Championship Cycle but also sees a fresh approach being adopted by the Cricket West Indies (CWI). CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe emphasized the importance of building a strong and consistent team identity going forward.
Head Coach Daren Sammy expressed confidence in the selections, highlighting their plan to bridge the competitive gap with top international teams. Particularly, he expressed excitement over Anderson’s arrival and Campbell’s return, which aim to bolster the batting order and create pressure against Australia’s bowling attack.
