A groundbreaking Day and Night Care Centre was officially opened on Thursday in Anna Catherina, Region Three, providing a beacon of hope for children, families, and the community.
The $93.8 million centre, commissioned by President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, marks a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to improving the lives of many families.
According to the President, this facility will have a profound impact on the well-being of families, enabling them to achieve their full potential and contribute to the region’s economic growth.
The ‘day and night’ care programme was conceptualised by Minister Persaud as part of the PPP/C’s 2020–2025 manifesto, aiming to empower working women and provide a safe space for children.
This innovative centre offers a range of services, including early screening programmes for eye diseases, hearing, and other conditions, to ensure that children receive the best possible care.
Director of the Childcare and Protection Agency, Lavene Gouviea, hailed this as a first-of-its-kind initiative in Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting its significance in improving early childhood development.
