Boulder, Colorado – A deeply observant Jewish couple, the Costellos, have opened up about their distress upon learning that their neighbor, who recently welcomed them with a gift, is now a suspect in a disturbing firebombing attack during a peaceful pro-Israel demonstration.
The couple had just settled into their new Colorado Springs home when FBI agents arrived, informing them that 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an illegal immigrant from Egypt, had been arrested for allegedly injuring a dozen individuals during the incident in Boulder.
“I came home to find the FBI at my door, which was frightening,” David Costello recounted. “They reassured us we weren’t in trouble but needed to inform us about the events in Boulder.”
The Costellos had previously met Soliman’s wife when she presented them with cupcakes as a housewarming gesture. Although they couldn’t partake due to kosher dietary laws, they accepted the treat, unaware of the impending terror associated with their neighbor.
Following the attack, which the couple learned about during the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, David and Rivkah expressed their shock. “We intended to live quietly, yet now we find ourselves in the spotlight,” Rivkah said. The couple had sought refuge in their new neighborhood due to concerns about rising anti-Israel sentiment in their former community.
Currently, Soliman is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, with bail set at $10 million. Rivkah expressed ongoing fears for her family’s safety, stating, “The possibility of his release terrifies us, especially with five young children in the house.”
