
The Guyana Prison Service has officially moved its headquarters to a new facility in Lusignan, East Coast Demerara. This strategic relocation will enhance the overall performance of the Prison Service by providing more space for administrative operations and improved staff coordination.
The new complex is situated within the Lusignan Prison compound and features modern facilities that support effective management, supervision, and rehabilitation efforts. The expanded structure includes six newly constructed cell blocks, trade shops, an infirmary annex, a vocational training school, and essential operational facilities such as a kitchen and staff living quarters.
The commissioning ceremony highlighted the prison service’s commitment to reducing recidivism through a holistic approach that incorporates safety, rehabilitation, and reintegration. The new facilities are expected to equip inmates with essential skills and services for successful reintegration into society.
