The NYPD has announced an increase in security at Jewish sites throughout New York City following Israeli military actions against Iran. The heightened measures are in response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, aimed at safeguarding Jewish communities. “Out of an abundance of caution, we’re deploying additional resources to Jewish, Israeli, and other sites throughout NYC,” the NYPD stated via social media.
Mayor Eric Adams shared that he has been briefed on the ongoing situation and emphasized that the NYPD’s Counterterrorism Unit is closely observing developments. “Our focus is on the safety of worship sites and Israeli diplomatic locations,” he remarked, expressing his hopes for peace in the region.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul reassured citizens that there are currently no credible threats to the city, while also announcing enhanced security measures for sensitive locations. She emphasized, “My priority is keeping New Yorkers safe.” In addition, security personnel have been deployed outside the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C.
The Community Security Service, which trains volunteers to protect synagogues, advises vigilance and the reporting of any suspicious behavior amongst its network. This surge in protective efforts coincides with Israel’s substantial military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear capabilities, which has resulted in significant casualties among Iranian military leaders.
