The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is on the lookout for Wayne Lucas, 23, who is wanted in connection with a violent assault on an off-duty police officer that occurred in the Bronx early Saturday. This incident involved a group of young individuals with alleged connections to a dangerous foreign gang, who mercilessly attacked the officer, resulting in multiple facial fractures.
In a coordinated effort, the police have already apprehended Taveon Hargrove, also 23, in Virginia with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. The attack transpired just before 4 a.m. when the suspects reportedly forced the officer to the ground, inflicted severe blows to his face, and threatened him with a knife, ultimately stealing his personal belongings and service weapon.
The officer was critically wounded and transported to a local hospital, where his condition remains undisclosed. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch expressed concern over a rising trend of violent encounters targeting police personnel, emphasizing the department’s commitment to pursuing those who attack law enforcement.
As the search for Lucas continues, the police stress that attacks on officers will be met with a robust response from the NYPD, reflecting their unwavering dedication to protecting their own.
