Federal authorities have apprehended an Ohio resident for making threats against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
The individual, identified as Anthony Kelly from Cincinnati, is facing federal charges for allegedly issuing violent threats to kidnap, assault, and even murder a U.S. official. This announcement was made on Saturday by Tricia McLaughlin, an official from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
McLaughlin expressed gratitude towards law enforcement for their swift action, stating that such threats are serious offenses that will lead to prosecution. In correspondence shared via social media platform X (formerly Twitter), McLaughlin included disturbing posts seemingly made by Kelly, which explicitly called for violence against ICE agents.
During a search of Kelly’s home, authorities reportedly discovered a firearm and ammunition. His threatening posts included comments about purchasing a gun and intentions to shoot federal agents, underscoring an alarming rise in assaults against ICE personnel, which the DHS has reported to have surged by 830% this year.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has stated that efforts will be made to prosecute anyone involved in doxxing ICE agentsāposting their private information publicly. The DHS aims to clamp down on these dangerous trends to protect its officers and uphold the law.
