
The investigation into the tragic death of Adriana Younge is still very much active, as confirmed by Crime Chief and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Wendell Blanhum. Detectives have been instructed to pursue further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Younge’s demise before the case file is submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal guidance.
During a recent episode of the Safeguarding the Nation programme streamed on Facebook, Blanhum clarified that the case remains a priority for law enforcement. Khalid Mandal, the former Commander of Region Three, who was responsible during the time of the incident, and several officers remain on administrative leave.
Adriana, age 11, was reported missing and subsequently found deceased at the Double Day Hotel in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, on April 24, after last being seen near the hotel pool on April 23. Her body was discovered floating in the pool the next morning. This unfortunate event has generated significant public interest and concern, prompting the family to request a more detailed examination.
Initially ruled a drowning without signs of foul play by the Guyana Police Force, a second autopsy conducted in New York corroborated these findings, showing no evidence of trauma. The Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Carol Terry, remarked that the initial autopsy was performed competently and thoroughly.
