President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced plans to establish a fuel and liquefied gas farm in Lethem, Region Nine, aimed at facilitating supplies to northern Brazil and transforming the area into a significant economic and industrial hub.
During the commissioning of the St. Ignatius Practical Instruction Department, the President emphasized the necessity of skill development for upcoming investments, urging the youth not just to seek employment but to become stakeholders in the investments. Various opportunities, including agro-processing, tourism, and agriculture, will see the government collaborating financially with local communities.
Among these initiatives, a commodities terminal is planned to be built along the Lethem-Linden road, enhancing transport logistics. Furthermore, a technical team is assessing the viability of cargo planes to export goods from Lethem and Roraima to Caribbean markets, which would link Region Nine to the wider Caribbean.
Large-scale projects are also in the pipeline, such as a milk and juice processing plant and value-added agricultural facilities. A proposal for 1,000 acres dedicated to shade houses and hydroponic farming targeting high-value export crops was made. Education and training will be vital, and practical instruction centers are set to be expanded across secondary schools.
For all plans to succeed, the President stressed that landowners should hold on to their property, as future appreciation in land value is expected.
