In a bold move, New York City police detained 24 anti-ICE protesters on Monday afternoon after they occupied the lobby of Trump Tower. Chanting phrases like “Bring Them Back,” the demonstrators not only voiced their dissent but also highlighted the deportations of immigrants to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador. Footage captured by Fox News demonstrated the swift response from NYPD officers who entered the building equipped with plastic handcuffs.
After nearly 40 minutes of protest, officers from the NYPD’s strategic Defense Unit arrived and informed attendees that they risked arrest if they did not vacate the premises. As the situation progressed, authorities restrained the protestors, escorting them out to awaiting police vans.
The incident at Trump Tower occurred amid a wave of anti-ICE demonstrations nationwide, ignited by a violent protest surge in Los Angeles. There, operations by ICE led to approximately 45 arrests across various locations, creating tension that has persisted for four days. One individual among the arrests was Cuong Chanh Phan, an illegal immigrant from Vietnam with a severe criminal background, marking a controversial focal point for protestors.
In New York, two distinct protest groups emerged: one blocked traffic, while the other gathered outside courts chanting, “No ICE, No KKK, No Fascist USA,” reflecting the divisive atmosphere sparked by immigration policies.
