Late Thursday, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) released a statement clarifying its role in the ongoing case concerning the murder of Kenesha Vaughn, involving Marlan DaSilva. The police confirmed that they are *not* responsible for prosecuting this case, as attorney Nigel Hughes was granted special authority (a Fiat) to lead the prosecution on March 17, 2025.
Concerns have emerged regarding the preparation of the prosecution, with various reports suggesting that the prosecutor has been unable to effectively advance the case in court. In light of these delays, the GPF intends to discuss this matter with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and may seek to have Hughes’s Fiat revoked.
The GPF emphasized the seriousness of the situation, particularly given the capital nature of the murder charge. They noted that such inefficiencies in prosecution cannot be tolerated.
If the trial does not commence at the upcoming hearing, the defense may request its dismissal. This case continues to draw public attention as stakeholders await the next developments.
