PRESIDENT Dr. Irfaan Ali has underscored the crucial role of political leadership and its connection to national growth, warning against the notion of turning governance into a performance. At a recent event, the President stated, “Elections and politics are not show business.”
He further emphasized that the advancements observed in Guyana are the result of intentional and strategic planning, rather than mere coincidence. “These are not accidental; they are outcomes of visionary thinking and careful planning,” he remarked.
President Ali encouraged citizens and stakeholders to focus on the transformative agenda his administration is pursuing. He urged everyone to contribute to building a stronger Guyana. “Let us sustain this momentum and foundation of transformation,” he said, highlighting the necessity of commitment to the nation’s future.
Reiterating his point about the seriousness required for effective governance, he stated, “These matters are not to be taken lightly.” He acknowledged the complex nature of governance, pointing out the consistent hard work it entails.
On healthcare investments, the President cited the commissioning of the new Diamond Regional Hospital as a significant step towards providing accessible, high-quality medical services. This facility is equipped with modern amenities including an oxygen plant and advanced diagnostics, aiming to position Guyana as a competitive player in the regional healthcare landscape.
The Diamond Hospital, which meets international standards, represents a major partnership with China’s Sinopharm International and CAMCE, among others planned for various locations.
