General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has positioned the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) as the leading political force committed to enhancing the lives of all citizens—from children to seniors. During a recent press conference at Freedom House in Georgetown, he defended the government’s strategic fiscal policies aimed at fortifying the economy.
With the General and Regional Elections approaching on September 1, Dr. Jagdeo reaffirmed the PPP/C’s intention to assert its social and economic accomplishments despite opposition critiques. He took a strong stance against the former A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) administration, which, according to him, eliminated essential support systems like the ‘Because We Care’ cash grant.
In his remarks, he insisted that the achievements made since the 2020 electoral victory will form a crucial part of the party’s campaign. “We’re focused on delivering $11 billion to parents and children that APNU took away from them,” he stated.
Dr. Jagdeo promised significant enhancements in future support for families, including increased aid for children and economic relief for adults. He also cited improvements in pensions, public servant wages, and benefits for farmers and miners as evidence of the PPP/C’s proactive measures.
Concluding, he emphasized that their campaign centers on tangible accomplishments, urging supporters not to be embarrassed by their affiliation and to proudly share the PPP/C’s successes amidst opposition negativity.
